Jan. 4, 2016 LITCHFIELD, Ariz. -- Gonzaga men's golfers, Ryan Gaske and Sean Walsh, both placed in the Top-30 at the first-ever Patriot All-America Invitational recently.
Played on the Gold Course at the Wigwam Golf Club, the 54-hole Patriot All-America invited players earning PING All-America honors from the previous season in NCAA Divisions I, II and III. Additionally, a player from the United States Military, Naval and Air Force Academies were invited, along with GCAA national award recipients, members of the most recent Palmer Teams, AJGA All-Americans and Toyota Junior Golf World Cup participants currently enrolled as college freshmen.
Gaske tied for 22nd at nine-over par (222). The junior opened the tournament with a two-over (73) first round. He made 12 pars in the opening 18 holes. He followed the first round with a 75 (+4) and a 74 (+3) in Rounds 2 and 3. Gaske made eight birdies and 29 pars over the 54 holes. He went two-under on the course's par-five holes.
Walsh followed closely behind in a tied for 27th place. He spread 39 pars and four birdies throughout the tournament. The senior was six-over (77) in the first round, five-over (76) in the second, and one-under (70) in the final round.
Ole Miss freshman Braden Thornberry shot an even-par 71 in the final round and captured the tournament title with a 2-under 211.
