Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown Final Results

BOULDER CITY, Nev.-The Gonzaga University women's golf team shook off an early fog delay and ended the fall season with a bang Tuesday, carding a school record 3-under-par 285 during the final round of the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown.

"I'm proud of how we went about our business after two crazy delays over the last two days," said Gonzaga head coach Brad Rickel. "We were very motivated today since the tournament was only going to be 36 holes. Bianca played her best round and Jessica shot her lowest round of collegiate golf so far."

Three Bulldogs ended the day at par or better, topped by sophomore Bianca Pagdanganan's 3-under 69. She played her first nine holes at 2-under and cut one more stroke off her tally over the final nine for her third score in the 60s this season. The Quezon City, Philippines, native climbed 20 spots up the leaderboard into a tie for 28th between the first and final rounds.

Jessica Mangrobang also went below par Tuesday, shooting 70 (-2) and improving on her previous collegiate best by four strokes. The freshman carded seven birdies throughout the loop, offsetting them with five bogeys. She tied for 36th with senior Ciera Min, who ended the fall with an even-par 72. The senior saw her streak of four consecutive Top 5 finishes snapped after taking a double bogey on her last hole. Despite the miss, she has shot par or better in seven of her 11 stroke play rounds this year. Both players finished the tournament with 143 strokes (-1).

Rounding out the Gonzaga lineup, both Jena Gao and Nina Novilla carded 74s (+2) during the final round, finishing at 149 (+5) for the tournament. They both tied for 75th but saw very different ends Tuesday: Novilla wrapped up her day with two birdies over the final nine holes while Gao counted three extra strokes over hers.

In all, the Zags counted 285 strokes Tuesday, their lowest score in relation to par and tied for the second lowest in terms of number of strokes taken. Gonzaga used the low round to climb two spots up the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown leaderboard and into a tie for 11th. They finished the shortened event with 577 strokes (+1), equaling the program best for team score in relation to par over 36 holes.

"We had an amazing round going; we were 10-under at one point," Rickel added. "We just ran out of gas over the last couple of holes and didn't quite close the deal."

Baylor won the tournament with a score of 551 (-25), and the Bears' Amy Lee took medalist honors at 135 (-9).

Play at the 6,301-yard, par-72 Boulder Creek Golf Club was due to begin at 8:00 a.m. Tuesday, but the final round did not start until 10:30 because of fog in the area. That wasn't the only weather-related incident of the tournament: Monday's second round was cancelled outright due to lightning storms.

With the conclusion of the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown, the Bulldogs are done with their fall slate. They'll next take the course Feb. 27 and 28 at The Gold Rush in Seal Beach, California.
