
Santa Clara Stymies Zags in Shutout

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- The Santa Clara women's soccer team scored both of their goals in the second half in a 2-0 win over Gonzaga at Stevens Stadium Friday.
The Broncos (7-6-4, 4-2-1 West Coast Conference) had a decisive 17-4 edge in shots in the match, placing eight on goal. All four of the Zags shots were on frame. Both of Karley Baggerly's shots were on frame. The senior now has 164 shots in her career, five away from the fourth-most in program history.
Santa Clara's Natalie Kennedy scored her second goal of the season in the 51st minute. Michaela George crossed a ball to the top of the box, where Kennedy gathered the ball and shot it to the far post over the Zags' keeper.
In the 83rd minute, Maddie Gonzalez got behind the Bulldogs' defense and recorded her second goal of the season. George and Julie Vass both took four shots for Santa Clara.
Sarah Swanson made a career-high six saves in the Gonzaga (6-8-2, 2-5-0) net, while Melissa Lowder had four for the Broncos. SCU took all four of the corner kicks in the match.
Gonzaga heads to San Francisco Sunday for a 1 p.m. matchup with USF. The Dons (6-11-0, 2-5-0) fell at home to Portland Friday, 1-0. Live video and stats will be available on GoZags.com Sunday.
