DANVILLE, Calif. -- The Gonzaga men's golf team finished the 2015-16 season with their lowest round total of the season Wednesday. The Zags' 285 total jumped them up to fifth on the team leaderboard to finish fifth at the 2016 West Coast Conference Championships on the Lakeside Course at the Blackhawk Country Club.

The Bulldogs were three-under in the third and final round. Their 285 total was one stroke better than the 286 posted in the first round of the Wyoming Cowboy Classic earlier this season. GU finished the WCC Championships 16-over (880). The three-round total matches the second-lowest outcome of the season. The Zags were 28-over (880) at the Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic and had their best 54-hole total at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic at 870 (+6).
"I'm really proud of the team for the competitive fight they showed this week," GU Head Coach Robert Gray said. "Today, we posted our best round of the season and that was a nice way to wrap up the season. At one point I saw we were eight-under-par, then we had a couple of tough holes but they kept fighting. It was awesome to see them fight through the adversity and move up the leaderboard."
Sean Walsh led Gonzaga in a tie for 14th on the individual leaderboard. He was one-over (73) Wednesday. The senior was two-over (218) in the tournament. Walsh made his second eagle of the championships on Hole 5. He made four birdies and eight pars in Round 3. The Keller, Texas native entered the event ranked 49th in the Golfstat Relative Rankings. Individual qualifiers for the NCAA Championships will be selected on May 5.
Ryan Gaske finished in 17th at four-over (220). The junior also carded a 73 (+1) in the third round. He made three birdies along with 11 pars in the final round.
David Ganz and Tyler Munetake both shot up the leaderboard with season-low rounds. Ganz tied for 20th after a 70 (-2) finish on Day 3. He was one-under after eight holes and eagled No. 9 to finish the front-nine at three-under. The sophomore went one-over on the back-nine. He finished the round with an eagle, three birdies and 11 pars. Ganz made 32 pars in the tournament. His three-day total was 221 (+5).
Munetake also made 32 pars in the championships. He had nine in the third round, along with six birdies. The freshman finished his first conference championships by firing a season-low 69 (-3). He was six-over (222) in 23rd place. On the final day, Munetake climbed 12 spots on the individual leaderboard, while Ganz rose 10 spots.
"Tyler and David had great rounds while the others got the most out of their ball striking," Gray said. "It was a total team effort this week."
Angus Montgomery finished in a tie for 32nd. He was 10-over (226) after 54 holes. The junior was two-over (74) Wednesday. He made 10 of his 31 pars in the tournament in the final round.
As a team, Gonzaga's 154 pars were the third-most made in the tournament. The Zags were three-over on Par-4 holes, with an average 4.03 on those holes, which was third-best in the tournament. GU's 285 team finish in the final round was the fourth-lowest total in the championships.
Saint Mary's coasted to its third WCC first-place finish and first since winning back-to-back titles in 2012 and 2013. The Gaels finished 23 strokes ahead of second-place Pepperdine. SMC was 25-under (839) in the tournament. Saint Mary's was eight-under (280) in the final round, while Pepperdine was seven-under (281).
The Gaels' Jonathan De Los Reyes claimed medalist honors. He led after each round and finished 19-under (197). The senior was six-under (66) in Round 3. Seb Crookall-Nixon was second in the 45-golfer field at eight-under (208).
The West Coast Conference will release their postseason awards and All-Conference teams Thursday. The WCC All-Academic teams will follow next week.
"Consistency has been an issue this year but the consistency we showed throughout the lineup over the last two events is very encouraging for next year," Gray said.
