Box Score

SPOKANE, Wash.--The Gonzaga University women's tennis team saw another strong outing Friday, sweeping Loyola Marymount 4-0 at The Stevens Center in Spokane for its 14th win of the dual season.

The Zags opened the match by taking the doubles point, their 10th on the year. At No. 1 doubles Samantha Polayes and Sophie Whittle came from behind to beat Jessica Perez and Elvira Juravliova, pulling even at 4-all and taking the final two for a 6-4 win. They're now 11-4 during the dual season, all at the top doubles spot.

Just a couple minutes later, the No. 3 doubles duo of Sissi Koehler and Domonique Garley captured the doubles point for GU, dispatching their foes, Anna Romeka and Tatijana Sheikhan, by a similar 6-4 scoreline. The Bulldog duo enjoyed a game advantage for much of the contest before picking up their ninth dual win.

Garley carried over that success into individual play, picking up a quick win at No. 6 singles. She dominated the beginning of her match, sweeping Sheikhan in the first set and winning the first few games in the second. The freshman from Fort Worth, Texas, took the second set by a 6-2 scoreline for her 23rd of the season and 14th in dual play and to give the Zags a 2-0 lead.

At No. 2 singles, Polayes put the Zags on the brink with another quick two-setter, beating Kristine Kouyoumjian in the process. She took the first set 6-2 and won the first five games of the second set en route to a 6-2, 6-1 victory. She's now won 18 singles matches this season.

Freshman Graciela Rosas clinched the victory on court five. She took the first set 6-2 but fell into a hole in the second. The Mexicali, Mexico native rallied back to take the frame by a break, putting away Romeka 6-2, 6-4. She's 18-4 on the year with a 13-1 mark in dual action.

The three other Zags were each up a set in their unfinished matches. Nevada Apollo was just starting a second-set tiebreak on court three when Rosas clinched the match, while Whittle and Alex Bourguignon were competing at Nos. 1 and 4 singles, respectively, when GU won.

With the win, Gonzaga advances to 14-2, equaling the program record for dual wins. Currently second place in the West Coast Conference standings at 4-1, the Zags square off against No. 9 Pepperdine, who's first in the league, on Saturday, April 9. That contest will begin at 11:00 a.m., again at The Stevens Center.
