June 29, 2016 WOODBURN, Ore.-Continuing from where she left off during the collegiate season, rising Gonzaga senior Ciera Min recently won a US Women's Amateur qualifying tournament, earning her first-ever bid to the prestigious event held in August.
Min took medalist honors at the US Women's Amateur Qualifier June 28 at the OGA Golf Course in Woodburn, Ore. She traversed the 6,204-yard loop in 67 strokes (-5), firing seven birdies along the way. Four of those came in the first nine holes for a front-nine tally of three-under 33 en route to a finish three strokes clear of second place and six clear of the qualifying score.
With the qualifying tournament victory, she earned a spot at the US Women's Amateur, which will be held August 1-7 at Rolling Green Golf Club in Springfield, Pa. The tournament's 156-person field will be trimmed to 64 after two rounds of stroke play, and match play will whittle those 64 down to a champion.
This will be Min's first appearance at the prestigious competition, but she has played in two US Amateur Public Links Championships and one US Girls' Junior previously.
Min will be the second Bulldog to compete at the US Women's Am in as many years; Dania Uy played two rounds of stroke play during the tournament in 2015.
Her victory comes two months after Min claimed medalist honors at the West Coast Conference Championships, her first tournament victory in collegiate golf. The Hilo, Hawaii, native shot a school-record 6-under-par 66 to claim the conference title. During her junior year, she averaged 74.38 strokes per round and posted two Top 5 finishes.
