MISSOULA, Mont. -- Gonzaga women's soccer's Kelly Bieraugel scored the game-winning goal just five minutes into a 1-0 victory at Montana Sunday.
Bieraugel's first collegiate goal was the difference in the match. The senior brought in a pass from Taylor Kernion and scored the game's lone goal from 10 yards out. Kernion has a goal and two assists after her first three collegiate matches.
Allison Seifert made a save, and posted a shutout, in her first career start for the Bulldogs (4-2-1). Kailey Norman had four saves in the Montana net.
The Zags outshot Montana 15-3, and had a 6-0 advantage in the first half. GU placed five shots on goal, compared to just one for the Griz. The Bulldogs' Callie Best took a match-high four shots. After taking all six corner kicks in its last match at Utah State, Gonzaga took all four versus Montana (4-2-1) Sunday.
"I'm extremely excited with our team's mentality today against a very hard-working Montana team," GU Head Coach Amy Edwards said. "The past two games we have not given up a corner kick. Our defensive commitment and organization continue to grow each game.
"The goal today was a quality finish by Kelly along with a team effort combining on the right flank between our midfield and forwards to get the weak side opportunity. This team's composure today after the heartbreaker on Friday was remarkable."
The victory was number 100 for Edwards in her coaching career. She now has 53 wins at Gonzaga and 47 at the University of Tulsa.
The Bulldogs return home for their final non-conference match at Luger Field this season against Boise State (1-6-0) Thursday. The Broncos were shutout, 1-0, at Idaho Sunday. Start time for Thursday's match is scheduled for 6 p.m. Live video and stats will be available on GoZags.com.
