FORT COLLINS, Colo.-The new season opened in style for the Gonzaga women's golf team Monday as the squad is in third after two rounds of the Ptarmigan Ram Classic and sophomore Bianca Pagdanganan equaled the program's single-round record with a 6-under-par 66.

The Quezon City, Philippines, native carded her record round on the day's second loop of the par-72 Ptarmigan Country Club. She posted six birdies and an eagle during the round, cutting four strokes off par during the day's final nine holes. Overall, she's tied for second with a tournament score of 140 (-4) after shooting a 2-over 74 during the morning.

It's Pagdanganan's lowest career round as well, bettering a 5-under 67 from last year's NCAA Regional in Bryan, Texas.

"Bianca struggled with her swing in the morning but really ground out a great round at 74; she started to find her stroke at the end of that round," said Gonzaga head coach Brad Rickel. "For the second, she just had an amazing round of golf, hitting it long and solid and making putts. Her eagle on the par-5 14th really kept the round going."

Ciera Min saw a solid start to her senior year, sitting in a tie for sixth with 143 strokes (-1). Gonzaga's lone senior, Min shot 73 (+1) during her first 18 holes and 70 (-2) in the afternoon, offsetting a double bogey with four birdies.

"Ciera was solid all day," said Rickel. "She really held us in it during the morning and played a great back nine in both rounds today. Really solid from start to finish."

Next up for Gonzaga, Jena Gao is tied for 29th at 150 (+6). She cut four strokes between the first and second loops, firing 77 (+5) and 73 (+1). The sophomore from Shanghai, China, ended her day with a strong rally, playing the final seven holes at four-under.

"Jena had a great last nine holes of the day to really help us," said Rickel.

Two freshmen made their collegiate debuts Monday as Jessica Mangrobang and Nina Novilla rounded out the GU lineup. Mangrobang is in a tie for 59th after counting 156 strokes (+12) during the Ptarmigan Ram Classic's first two rounds while Novilla is tied for 71st, two strokes back.

"The freshmen battled all day and are learning as they go," Rickel said. "I'm really proud of our team and the fact that we played the last nine holes of a 36-hole day at 10-under to pull ourselves back into the top three."

Thanks to an even-par 288 during the second round, the Zags are in third place by a stroke. As a team, they took 589 strokes (+13) on the day, just one more than second-place Nevada. San Jose State leads the team competition at 4-under 572 while the Spartans' My Leander is the top individual at 6-under 138.

Gonzaga will wrap up the Ptarmingan Fall Classic on Saturday, Sept. 13 with the third and final round. That will begin with a shotgun start at 7:00 a.m. Pacific (8:00 a.m. Mountain), again at Fort Collins' Ptarmigan Country Club.
