HOW TO WATCH
- Sling TV, an Over-the-Top (OTT) Internet TV service, is available for $20 a month and can be used through an array of Internet-connected devices, including Xbox One, Roku media streamers, PCs, Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick, and iOS and Android smartphones and tablets. ZAGS RAIN THREES OVER WAVES
- All totaled, six different Bulldogs hit threes, with all having made two or more, as Gonzaga defeated Pepperdine 83-61 at home on Saturday.
- In the end, Gonzaga finished with 15 long-range buckets, tying the record set against UC Irvine earlier this season.
- Elle Tinkle put together a great line with 16 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Jill Barta was the leading scorer with 17 points and Kiara Kudron led on the glass with eight boards.
- The Gonzaga bench outscored the Waves' reserves, 36-2.
SERIES HISTORY
- The Zags lead the back-and-forth all-time series 12-8.
- GU is 7-0 all-time against the Cougars inside the McCarthey Athletic Center, with the first game being a 71-57 Gonzaga win in the first round of the WNIT in 2005. Shannon Matthews, the West Coast Conference Player of the Year, scored 12 of her 24 points in the first half in that game.
- GU did have two losses in the old Kennel, in 1984 and 2001.
- Gonzaga head coach Lisa Fortier is 3-2 against the Cougars winning both regular-season meetings in 2015 and the WCC meeting at home last season, 73-55. 16th-year BYU head coach Jeff Judkins is 6-11 against Gonzaga.
- Gonzaga has won by an average of 17.6 points per game in their seven wins at home, never winning by less than double-figures.
- Gonzaga's win streak of four from 2013-14 is the longest in the series, as BYU has never won more than two-straight games.
- Gonzaga leads 7-3 all-time in West Coast Conference regular-season meetings, which began when BYU joined the conference in 2011-12.
SCOUTING THE COUGARS
- The Cougars fell at Loyola Marymount on Saturday, allowing Gonzaga to move into first place by themselves.
- Cassie Broadhead leads the WCC in scoring this season at 19.1 points per game. Jill Barta is second at 17.8 ppg. Broadhead recorded a career high in points with 30 against San Diego and has recorded double digits in scoring in 20 of the 21 games played.
- Makenzi Pulsipher (13.4 ppg) and Kalani Purcell (12.1 ppg) also average double-figures in points. Purcell averages a double-double with 10.7 rebounds per game.
- Pulsipher and Purcell were both selected to the Preseason All-WCC team. BYU was picked second behind Gonzaga in the Preseason WCC Coaches' Poll, and earned four first-place votes.
- The Cougars lead the WCC with 9.4 steals per game.
BARTA MAKING A CASE
- Jill Barta has been voted the WCC Player of the Week twice this season.
- In conference games, Barta is averaging 18.6 points per game, fourth in the league, in 26.5 minutes per game. She is shooting 50 percent from the field, fifth in the conference, and 39 percent from three.
- She is 48-of-56 from the foul line, fifth in the league, and averaged 5.5 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game.
- Barta has scored over 20 points four times in that stretch, and over 30 points once. Against Saint Mary's and Portland she went 10-for-10 from the foul line in each game.
- At San Diego she hit the game-winning shot at the buzzer, the first of her career.
- She has scored in double-figures in nine of the 10 games, and led the Zags in scoring eight times, including the last six.
FIRST HALF THREES, PART II
- The Zags broke the half-only and single-quarter records for three-pointers made against Pepperdine, making 12 in the first half and seven in the first quarter. The previous highs were 10 and six, respectively, set against Colgate in December.
- GU also made six threes in the second quarter at Portland on January 21.
- The Zags had never hit 10 threes in a half dating back to game records through the 1999-2000 season. The closest they came in that stretch was nine in the second half against Eastern Washington on December 17, 1999.
- The Bulldogs matched the program-record for threes in a game against Pepperdine, making 15 to tie the mark they set against UC Irvine in the second game of the year this sea-son.
- It is just one short of the record inside the McCarthey Athletic Center, as the GU men made 16 against Pepperdine in 2015.
ETCHED IN THE RECORD BOOKS
- Elle Tinkle swiped six steals at Portland, a career-high, moving to 10th all-time at Gonzaga with 169 in her career, passing Kelly Bowen's mark by one. She now sits at 173.
- She currently sits four behind Raeanna Jewell's 177 and seven behind Keani Albanez's 180 for eighth place.
- Tinkle had 61 steals her junior year and has 42 on the year so far this season.
- The redshirt senior is also ninth in all-time games played at Gonzaga with 131. She is only seven short of tying Kelly Bowen and Kayla Standish for first at 138.
- Tinkle has played in 104 games that Gonzaga has won. She trails the winningest Zag of all time, Jazmine Redmon, by eight wins. Redmon won 112 games from 2010-2014.
STREAKING
- In the current eight-game win streak, the Zags are winning by 15.8 points per game and averaging 5.3 more rebounds, 4.4 more assists, 4.5 less turnovers, 4.8 more steals, and 1.3 more blocks than their opponent per game.
- The Zags streak of eight-straight wins is the 15th longest active streak in the country.
- The Gonzaga men and women have the third-best combined record this year at 39-4, trailing Baylor (41-2) and Maryland (40-3). Their streak of 30-straight wins is the best active streak in the nation.
70/59 IS THE SWEET SPOT
- The Zags are 11-0 this season when scoring more than 70 points.
- The Bulldogs are 13-0 when allowing 59 points or less.
FIRST MONTH MAGIC
- With a win against Pepperdine, the Zags went undefeated in the month of January.
- The program has had great success in the month of January, recording nine undefeated January's since 2004-2005, with coach Fortier recording two in her first three seasons.
IS THAT SEAT TAKEN?
- GU recorded their first sellout of the season against Pepperdine, as 6,000 fans watched them beat the Waves.
- The Zags lead the nation in the percentage of building capacity being filled at 92.14 percent in attendance per game.
- GU spent the majority of last year and this year hovering around number two and three.
- The Zags lead Notre Dame and Louisiana who are second and third respectively. Gonzaga is welcoming an average of 5,528 patrons per game this season to the 6,000-seat McCarthey Athletic Center. They are 12th in overall average attendance.
- Those 5,528 fans are the most in the West, with New Mexico being the closest at No. 17 with 4,692 fans per game.
- 60,812 fans have passed through the gates so far this season, 14th in the nation and the most in the West.
SWEET HOME SPOKANE
- The Zags numbers at home this year are staggering. Besides the 10-1 record, GU is averaging 72.9 points per game inside McCarthey Athletic Center and beating their opponent by an average of 23.1 points per game.
- GU is shooting 41.5 percent and holding their opponent to 33.8 percent from the field.
- The Zags have controlled the glass as well, averaging 44.4 rebounds per game, a 14.1 rebound per game advantage over their competitor.
- The Bulldogs are averaging 16.8 assists per game while only seeing 9.6 per game headed in the other direction.
- The Zags have blocked 45 shots in 11 games, and have only had 16 of their shots blocked in 440 minutes of action in The Kennel.
- GU is dialing 35.9 percent from long range and their opponent is struggling at 22.9 percent behind the arc.
