HEAD OF THE SPOKANE

ABOUT THE REGATTA:
- The 5,000-meter race will finish at the Gonzaga boathouse on the Spokane River.
- The racing will feature varsity eight, second varsity eight, varsity four, third varsity eight, fourth varsity eight, novice eight, and second novice eight boats.

LAST SEASON:
- The course was set at 4500 meters and the wind shifted a bit throughout the day.
- The Bulldogs varsity eight grabbed the victory over the Cougars, timing in at 13:57, 28 seconds ahead of WSU.
- The second varsity eight followed suit and finished at 14:57, a small margin of two seconds faster than Washington State.
- The Cougars won the varsity four at 15:33, but Gonzaga took the next four spots behind them with the "B" boat coming in second. WSU just edged GU in the novice eight boats with a time of 15:11, 17 seconds faster than Gonzaga's "A" boat.

THIS YEAR'S CREW:
- The Zags return Max Baker, Ian Melder, William Terry, Matt Peterson, and Max Sombrowski from last year's finishing varsity eight boat.
- The entire second varsity eight boat that finished third at the Western Sprints last spring returns this season.
- Max Baker, Eric Engel, William Terry, Anthony Adamek, and Matt Peterson, who rowed at the IRA National Championships in the varsity four last spring, bring that experience to the Zags this year.

THE FACES OF GONZAGA ROWING:
- Gonzaga head coach and Director of Rowing Dan Gehn enters his 24th season with the Zags this fall.
- He has led the Zags to 11 IRA National Championship appearances.
- Assistant coach Mark Voorhees is back leading the underclassmen for the ninth season.

NUMBER OF NOVICES:
- 23 Gonzaga students joined the Zags this fall season as novices.
- They will make their debut as rowers at the Head of the Spokane.

COACHES' QUOTES:
"There is always a lot of excitement the first time you lineup against an opponent at the start of the season," Gonzaga head coach Dan Gehn said. "The entire team has worked hard over the summer and this fall. They are ready to get after it!"

Directions to Gonzaga Boathouse

From Gonzaga University
Get on Hamilton Road heading South
Take a left on Trent heading East
Follow Trent about four miles to Park Road
Take a left on Park Road heading North
Follow Park Road North until it ends at the river
Go left one block and thru the gates to boat house
Once through the gates follow gravel road until you reach the boat house.

From I-90 from West
Exit on 282 (Trent/Hamilton Exit)
At bottom of exit take a right onto Trent
Follow instructions above once on Trent

From I-90 from East
Exit on 287 (Argonne Exit)
Head North on Argonne towards Mt. Spokane Park
Follow through four stop lights until you reach Trent
Take a left on Trent and follow about two miles
Take a right on Park Road heading North
Follow Park Road North until it ends at the river
Go left one block and thru the gates to boat house Once through the gates follow gravel road until you reach the boat house.
