Feb. 17, 2017 SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Gonzaga senior Ciera Min and sophomore Bianca Pagdanganan were both selected to the Preseason All-West Coast Conference team, the conference office announced Friday, and the Bulldogs are picked third in the WCC Preseason Coaches' Poll with nine points.
Min, a three-time All-WCC selection, won the Individual WCC Championship last season. Min was selected Preseason All-WCC prior to last season as well. Last year, she was second on Gonzaga with a 74.38 stroke average and had two Top-10 finishes on the year, including her win in the WCC Championships and a fifth-place showing at October's Pat Lesser Harbottle Invitational. This past fall, Min led the Zags with a 71.45 stroke average and three Top-Five finishes, highlighted by second-place finishes at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic and Pat Lesser Harbottle Invitational, and she finished five-under par at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic. Min is currently ranked 100th among all NCAA Division I golfers by Golfstat and 86th by Golfweek.
Pagdanganan, the 2016 WCC co-Freshman of the Year and an All-WCC First Team selection, was the first golfer in Gonzaga program history to play at the NCAA Championships last season. Last season she won the prestigious Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational and had four other Top-10 finishes, three of those in the top five. She finished second at the WCC Championships and carried a 72.65 stroke average into the NCAA Regionals. This past fall, she finished fourth at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic, including tying the school record with a second round 66, and finished with a 73.55 stroke average heading into the spring. She is currently ranked 198th by Golfstat and 250th by Golfweek. Over Christmas break, she won the Philippine Ladies Open, in her home country.
The Zags finished second at the 2016 WCC Championships just three strokes behind first-place BYU. It was the fourth second-place finish at the WCC Championships for the Zags, also finishing runner-up in 2014, 2013, and 2011. The Zags were picked to finish second in the four prior preseason polls. This season BYU is picked first with four first-place votes and Pepperdine is second with one first-place vote. Santa Clara and San Francisco round out the poll with eight and four points respectively. The Zags are currently ranked 80th among NCAA Division I schools by Golfstat and 81st by Golfweek.
The Zags have been working hard this winter in their indoor facility inside the Stevens Center, and traveling south to find courses available to play. They kick off the spring season on Feb. 27 at The Gold Rush in Seal Beach, Calif.
The 2017 West Coast Conference Golf Championships will be held at Riverside Country Club in Provo, Utah. The tournament runs April 20-22.
