SEAL BEACH, Calif. - The Gonzaga Bulldogs completed their first tournament of the spring on Tuesday afternoon, finishing fifth at The Gold Rush at the par-72 Old Ranch Country Club in Seal Beach, Calif.
The Zags moved up a spot to fifth place at the conclusion of the final round, finishing +28 with a team score of 892. Bianca Pagdanganan led the Zags finishing +3 in a tie for seventh place, her second top-10 finish this season and eighth in her career. She fired three birdies for a three-under front nine, but went six-over on the back in her final round for a 75.
Ciera Min shot a final-round 74 to finish tied for 13th at six-over-par. On Tuesday, she bounced back from a +3 front nine to shoot -1 on the back at 74. Nina Novilla kept playing well after her career-low 71 on Monday, firing a 75 on Tuesday, going even on the back nine with two birdies. She tied for 15th overall, the best finish of her career by 16 spots, and was +7 overall.
Jessica Mangrobang shot a 77 in her last round to tie for 45th at +16, with two birdies on the back nine, and Jena Gao finished in 73rd with a final round 83 at +25 overall. Diana Araneta, playing as an individual, finished 83rd after a final round 78, shooting even on the back nine with two birdies.
"Overall we are very happy with our performance in our first event," Gonzaga head coach Brad Rickel said. "We can definitely point to a few things that we can improve, but certainly not our effort. Everyone competed hard and stuck with our game plan. We had cold, rain, and wind today. This will prepare us well for our spring season to come."
San Jose State won the tournament and Lauren Atkinson of BYU won the individual title.
Gonzaga is back on the course on March 13 at the Entrada Classic hosted by BYU in St. George, Utah. It is a two-day event at the Entrada Golf Club. Live links will be available at GoZags.com.
