RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The Gonzaga University men's tennis team began its trip to Southern California with a win Monday, downing host UC Riverside in the first four points at the SRC Tennis Courts in Riverside.

Gonzaga began the match by winning the doubles point, the Zags' sixth consecutive pairs tally. At No. 2 doubles, Kyle Everly and Vincent Rettke paced GU with a 6-2 win over Cooper Bridge and Anderson Ju. Ruadhan O'Sullivan and Sam Feit then clinched that doubles point with a 6-2 win of their own at No. 1 doubles. The Highlanders avoided the doubles sweep, however, with another 6-2 match court three.

In singles play, the Bulldogs clinched the dual victory on the first three courts that finished. Feit once again ended first, downing Tadeas Lansky 6-0, 6-2 on court three for his fourth straight victory. The freshman has also clinched the first singles point for Gonzaga in each of the last three matches.

On court four, Ronzai Saurombe tacked on a third point to GU's tally with a two-set win. He doubled up Nabil Abdallah 6-3 in the first and took the second 6-2. With the win, he evened his dual record at 4-4.

Rettke clinched the match with another two-set win at No. 2 singles. He doubled up Kyle McCann 6-3, 6-3 for a 4-0 dual score in favor of the Zags. Rettke advanced to 5-2 at No. 2 singles this season.

The other three singles contests all saw third set super tiebreaks, and UC Riverside players won all three of them. O'Sullivan lost his 10-4, forcing it by winning the second set; Emilio Moreno lost his tiebreak 10-7; and Everly fell 10-3 in the extra period

With the win, the Bulldogs advance to 5-3 and pick up their first win away from Spokane this dual season. They'll continue the three-match Spring Break trip on Wednesday, March 15, at UC Santa Barbara. That match will begin at 1:30 p.m. in Santa Barbara, Calif.
