GOLD RIVER, Calif. - The (RV) Gonzaga Bulldogs came home with two victories on Sunday at the Lake Natoma Invitational just outside of Sacramento.

The Bulldogs were joined in their heats by (RV) Central Florida and Notre Dame. In calm conditions, the varsity four locked down the first win two seconds ahead of the Fighting Irish at 7:16.96. The second varsity eight was edged by Notre Dame, who was seven seconds faster than GU's time of 6:46.00. The varsity eight crew of Gonzaga brought home the biggest win of the event with a time of 6:35.35, beating Notre Dame by just over a second, as the wind picked up for the final GU race of the invite.

"Overall we were pleased with the performance of the varsity four and varsity eight as they raced consistent, gritty, and pulled out some wins," Gonzaga head coach Glenn Putyrae said. "The second varsity eight is still struggling to put together a complete race and in the second half of the race they really lost speed. We took some good steps forward this weekend, but still have a lot of work to do to get where we want to be."

For the Zags, it was just the second time in the three years they have entered the event that they won two races in the weekend.

The Bulldogs will train leading up to Easter Break, and return to competition on April 22 and 23 in Clemson, S.C. for the Clemson Invitational.
