Women's Rowing Finishes First Day of WCC Championships

The Zags will race for the title tomorrow morning

LAKE NATOMA, Calif. – Gonzaga women's rowing put together a strong showing on the opening day of the 2025 West Coast Conference Rowing Championships at Lake Natoma, advancing to key finals and claiming wins in multiple preliminary heats.

The Zags kicked off the regatta with a dominant performance in the Varsity Four, finishing first in their heat with a time of 7:36.04. The crew maintained a consistent lead through each 500-meter checkpoint, fending off San Diego and Sacramento State in a confident row.

In the Second Varsity Four, Gonzaga crossed the line in second place with a time of 7:46.38—comfortably ahead of third-place San Diego (7:54.52) and within striking distance of Oregon State, who led the heat at 7:36.07.

The Second Varsity Eight also made a statement, finishing second in their heat with a time of 6:45.66 in a neck-and-neck sprint with Washington State, who finished in 6:45.12. The race was tight the entire course as the Zags and Cougs had the same times at the 500 and 1,000 meter marks.

Gonzaga's First Varsity Eight boat surged to a first-place finish in its heat with a time of 6:34.34—the fastest in its flight. The Zags held off a late push by Washington State and held the lead through the finish line. The Zags held a lead over WSU at the 500-, 1,000- and 1,500-meter marks to take first and have the best time of the day between both heats.

All Gonzaga boats will return to the water Saturday for final heats to see who will advance to the NCAA Championships.
