SPOKANE, Wash. -- The Gonzaga women's soccer team grabbed its second win with a 2-0 shutout victory over Omaha at Luger Field Sunday.
In the first-ever meeting between the programs, the Zags (2-0-0) created several opportunities behind a 20-4 advantage in shots taken. GU placed six shots on frame, compared to two for the Mavericks.
Callie Best opened the scoring in the 14th minute. She volleyed a ball from McKenna Ferrera at the top of the box, lofting it over the keeper. In the 71st minute, Madeline Gotta struck a ball from well outside the box into the back of the net. Maddie Cooley was credited with the assist.
Isabel Jones made a pair of saves in the GU net, while Haley Johnson stopped four shots for Omaha (0-2-0).
The Bulldogs are 2-0-0 for the fourth time in program history, and first since 2014. It's the first time in program history that GU has opened the season with two shutout victories. The Zags have never been 3-0-0.
