SPOKANE, Wash. -- The Gonzaga women's soccer team scored goals in the second and 102nd minute in a thrilling 2-1 double-overtime win over Seattle Sunday.
The victory gave the Zags (8-1-1) their best-ever finish to non-conference play, and kept GU unbeaten at home so far this season.
Gonzaga's Callie Best recorded her third game-winning goal of the season, which tops the West Coast Conference. She dribbled through the Seattle defense, around the keeper and slid a ball into the net. It was her fourth goal of the season.
The Bulldogs' Madeline Gotta opened the scoring just over a minute into the match. She received a beautiful pass from India Jencks and curled a ball, low to the far post for her third goal of the season. It was Jencks first assist of the season, and while her streak of a goal in each of the last five games came to an end, she now has a point in each of the last six outings. Jencks tops the WCC with 19 points this season.
Jennifer Plummer scored the equalizer for Seattle in the 40th minute. She chipped a ball over the GU keeper for her third goal of the season.
Isabel Jones made three saves in her eighth win of the season for the Zags. Mackenzie Curry finished with seven saves for the Redhawks (4-5-1).
Gonzaga remained perfect on Sundays this season (6-0-0), behind a 19-8 advantage in shots against Seattle. The Bulldogs place nine on frame, compared to SU's four on goal.
The Zags open conference play at Pacific (3-6-2) Friday. Start time is scheduled for 7 p.m. Live video and stats will be available on GoZags.com.
