
Zags Off to Best Start in Program History

SPOKANE, Wash. -- The Gonzaga women's soccer team clinched their best start in program history with a 4-0 win over Hawaii at Luger Field Sunday.
The Zags (4-0-1) are unbeaten after five games for the first time in program history. India Jencks recorded a brace for GU, and Sophia Viviano scored once and recorded an assist. Isabel Jones finished with her third shutout victory of the young season.
Jencks headed in a cross from Savanah Van Citters in the 21st minute. Nine minutes later, Viviano scored her second goal of the season, sliding a ball past the keeper to the far post. Maddie Kincaid and Madeline Gotta were credited with assists.
Jencks scored her third goal of the season in the 49th minute, striking in a finish off of a pass from Viviano. Callie Best fought hard for her third goal of the season in the 59th minute, scoring off a deflection from the keeper.
Gonzaga outshot Hawaii, 23-6, with a 9-2 advantage in shots on goal. Jones stopped two Hawaii (2-4-0) shots. Alexis Mata made five saves for the Rainbow Wahine.
The Bulldogs travel to Eastern Washington Friday, before heading to Denver Sunday.
