SPOKANE, Wash. – The Gonzaga women's tennis team continued its strong play Saturday afternoon on the second day of the Gonzaga Invitational inside The Stevens Center. Five Bulldogs claimed singles wins, and Gonzaga won all three of its doubles matches on the day.
"I thought we were really focused today," head women's tennis coach
D.J. Gurule said. "Our fitness has been a huge factor in our play, and the girls' hard work this fall is showing on the court. We have a short turnaround, but we will be ready to go in the morning."
The Bulldogs opened the day with strong play in singles as they won five-of-six singles matches on the day.
Kate Ketels picked up her first singles win of the tournament with a 6-1, 7-5 victory over Portland's Angela Schuster while
Vlada Medvedcova rolled past Raphaelle LeBlanc of Portland 6-2, 6-1.
Domonique Garley and
Graciela Rosas also recorded two-set wins over their Portland opponents, as Garley defeated Emily Soares 6-3, 6-4 and Rosas bested Lourdes Ramalle 6-2, 6-4.
Sophie Whittle rounded out the wins for the Zags with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Portland's Anna Oberg.
Gonzaga remained unbeaten on the weekend as it picked up all three wins in doubles play. Whittle and Rosas paired up to defeat New Mexico State's Lindsay Harlas and Harsha Challa 6-3 while Garley and
Sara Komer combined to defeat the Aggies' Yadira Rubio and Neus Torregrosa 6-1. Ketels and
Katie Day completed the sweep with a 6-3 victory over New Mexico State's Gavi Kalaga and Chloe Gavino.
The final day of the Gonzaga Invitational continues Sunday, Nov. 4 inside The Stevens Center. Singles play is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Live video is available
