THE TIP-OFF:
- Gonzaga plays at the University of North Carolina for the first time ever on Saturday, at 4 p.m. Pacific.
- The Tar Heels have won two of the three previous matchups, including the last meeting in the 2017 National Championships in Phoenix, 71-65.
- Gonzaga beat the Tar Heels in the 2006 Preseason NIT semifinals, 82-74, in Madison Square Garden in New York City.
- The Zags are 13-10 against Atlantic Coast Conference competition, including 12-10 under Mark Few.
- The Zags are coming off of a 76-73 loss to then No. 7/7 Tennessee in Phoenix Sunday. Brandon Clarke and Rui Hachimura both scored 21 points to lead the Zags. Clarke added nine rebounds.
- GU has played 168 games without consecutive losses.
- Josh Perkins leads the country with 84 total assists and is second averaging 8.4 assists per game. Brandon Clarke is third with 33 blocks, fourth in field goal percentage (71.4) and fifth averaging 3.3 blocks per game.
- The Zags are third in the nation in field goal percentage (52.3 percent) and scoring offense (94.1), and 195 total assists.
- Gonzaga defeated then top-ranked Duke in the Maui Invitational Championships. It was the Bulldogs' first-ever win over a No. 1 ranked team.
 
SERIES NOTES:
- This is the fourth all-time meeting between Gonzaga and North Carolina.
- UNC has won the two previous meetings, including the latest, 71-65 in the 2017 National Championships. Josh Perkins scored 13 points, making three three-pointers.
- Gonzaga beat the Tar Heels in the 2006 Preseason NIT semifinals, 82-74, in Madison Square Garden.
- In 2009, North Carolina beat the Zags, 98-77, in the Sweet 16 in Memphis, Tenn.
- The Zags are 13-10 against Atlantic Coast Conference competition, including 12-10 under Mark Few. GU won its latest matchup versus an ACC opponent, beating Duke in the Maui Invitational Championships.
 
SCOUTING THE TAR HEELS:
- North Carolina beat UNC-Wilmington, 97-69, in its last game on Dec. 5 in Chapel Hill.
- UNC's Cameron Johnson led all scorers with 21 points. Four North Carolina players finished in double-digit scoring. Kenny Williams had 11 points and eight assists.
- The Tar Heels made 49 percent of their shots from the field and outrebounded UNCW, 49-36.
- Johnson (15.7 ppg), Coby White (15.3), Luke Maye (13.7) and Nassir Little (12.0) lead North Carolina in scoring.
- Maye averages a team-high 9.4 rebounds per outing, while Williams has thrown a team-best 44 assists.
