EUGENE, Ore. - Gonzaga baseball took a tough loss on the road at Oregon, 6-3, on Tuesday at PK Park in Eugene, Ore.
After GU jumped out to a 3-0 lead through the sixth, but Oregon notched a six-run seventh before holding the Zags scoreless.
Justin Blatner posted a solid start on the mound for the Zags, holding Oregon to one run on two hits with five strikeouts and two walks in 6.0-plus innings. He faced the opening batter in the seventh.
On offense, Branson Trube and Daniel Fredrickson had two hits apiece, while Gunnar Schubert had one hit that improved his on-base streak to all 15 games and his hit streak to nine games.
The Zags struck first in the top half of the first inning with a pair of runs for a 2-0 lead. Schubert and Jace VanDeBrake each notched RBI singles in the opening frame.
GU pushed the lead to 3-0 in the fourth with an RBI single off the bat of Nick Nyquist.
Meanwhile, Blatner posted zeroes on the mound through the sixth, but gave way to Taylor Davis after a walk to open the seventh. The Ducks then took advantage of a Zag error after scoring the first three runs in the inning to post three more unearned.
Gonzaga wraps up its season-opening 16-game roadtrip on Wednesday at Seattle U. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Bannerwood Ballpark.
