Zags Take Fourth In SDCC Grand Final

March 25, 2018

SAN DIEGO - The Zags battled to a fourth-place finish in the Varsity American Specialty Health Cup Grand Final on Sunday in the San Diego Crew Classic on Mission Bay.

GU came home with a time of 6:32.358, six seconds behind Orange Coast College, but they edged conference-foe San Diego by less than a second.

"The water was typical San Diego Crew Classic," Gonzaga head coach Dan Gehn said. "Hard side wind and hard chop. We didn't have a great first thousand meters, but hats off to these guys for staying with it and charging hard from a length behind and pushing through USD in the last five strokes."

Temple won the crew classic at 6:17.856, and it was the best finish for the Bulldogs since they won it in 2003. GU is back on the water next weekend in the Husky Open on the Montlake Cut in Seattle.
