TEMPE, Ariz. – For the third straight season, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) has recognized Gonzaga men's tennis players as ITA Scholar Athletes for their performances in the classroom and on the court.

Simon Homedes Dualde and
Matthew Perkins were all recognized as ITA Scholar Athletes for the 2017-18 season.
Gonzaga's Everly secured his second-straight ITA Scholar Athlete honor after finishing the 2017-18 slate with a 17-13 overall singles records including a 10-5 duals mark. The rising junior opened the spring season with five straight wins and finished WCC play with a 4-1 mark. In doubles play, Everly posted a 12-16 overall mark competing in all but one match with partner
Vincent Rettke.
Homedes Dualde also secured his second-straight award after finishing his sophomore campaign with a 6-10 singles mark and 6-16 overall doubles record. The Barcelona, Spain native opened the duals slate with three straight wins including a 6-0, 6-0 sweep over Whitworth's Nicholas Adell. In doubles play, Homedes Dualde opened the spring season with four straight victories and ended the year with a 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles to clinch the doubles point over Saint Mary's.
In his first season with the Bulldogs, Perkins posted an 8-9 overall singles record, starting his freshman campaign with a win over Nevada's Dylan Levitt in straight sets to advance to the round of 16 at the Aggie Invitational. Perkins teamed up with Homedes Dualde in doubles play, highlighted by a 6-4 win over Saint Mary's at No. 3 doubles to clinch the doubles point for the Bulldogs in GU's 6-4 win over the Gaels on April 14.
The trio also performed in the classroom as Homedes Dualde posted a 3.92 GPA, Everly finished with a 3.88 and Perkins posted a 3.84 GPA his first year. All three Zags are working toward a degree in the business; Homedes Dualde is studying accounting and business administration while both Everly and Perkins are majoring in business administration.
In order to earn ITA Scholar Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters (including freshman through senior year).
