SPOKANE, Wash. – Gonzaga men's golf head coach
Robert Gray announced the hiring of Ross Button as the program's assistant coach.
"Joining Gonzaga University and Coach Gray as the assistant men's golf coach is a tremendous honor," Button said. "Gonzaga has a rich tradition of academic and athletic excellence, and I look forward to working with Coach Gray in helping our student-athletes achieve success on the course and in the classroom. Being a part of a team has really shaped my life in a positive way and I hope to be a boost to the incredible culture Coach Gray has created. Gonzaga has a huge fan base in Spokane and I am thrilled to play a role in that community."
Button spent last season as an assistant coach for the University of Idaho men's golf program.
"We're very excited to bring Ross into our program," Gray said. "His experience in coaching and caddying will be huge assets as we develop our team members. With his personality, integrating with the team should be an easy transition."
Prior to joining the staff at Idaho, Button was the head coach at Moscow High School for three years. Born and raised in Moscow, Button is a 2003 graduate of Moscow High School and went on to play golf collegiately at Lewis-Clark State College. He received a bachelor's degree in Social Science from LCSC.
In addition to skill development, Button brings with him four years of professional caddy experience. His time on the bag will help Gonzaga's student-athletes on the course during competition. At Idaho, Button also offered day-to-day assistance with operational tasks and organization of practices.
The Gonzaga men's golf team begins their 2018-19 schedule at the Mark Simpson Invitational in Erie, Colo. on Sept. 24.
