Women’s soccer faces Sooners for first time in program history

SERIES NOTES:
This is the first-ever meeting between Gonzaga and Oklahoma. The Zags face an opponent from the Big 12 Conference for only the fourth time ever. GU has lost all three previous meetings against current Big 12 members. The Bulldogs lost to Iowa State in overtime, 2-1, in the second game of the 2002 season in Colorado Springs, Colo. Gonzaga fell at Oklahoma State, 2-1, in 2013. Oklahoma State then defeated the Zags, 2-0, in Spokane in 2015. In another trip to the state of Oklahoma, GU dropped a 3-0 decision at Tulsa in 2013. The Bulldogs play at former Big 12 member, Missouri, on Sept. 9.
SCOUTING THE SOONERS:
- After opening the season with back-to-back 2-1 losses to Nebraska and Oklahoma State, Oklahoma cruised to a 7-1 win over Illinois State Friday.
- Kaylee Dao found the back of the net twice for the Sooners, while Marissa McMahand recorded three assists. Hailey Davidson scored a goal and had an assist.
- McKinley Crone made five saves for Oklahoma.
- Twelve of the Sooners' 15 shots were on goal. Illinois State had eight shots, placing seven on frame.
- Dao has scored three goals so far this season, and has taken a team-high six shots.
- OU enters the 2018 season with six returning starters, including 2017 All-Big 12 first-team selection Kaylee Dao. The Sooners added an 11-member signing class.
- Last season, Oklahoma went 3-13-4 overall and 1-5-3 in the Big 12. Dao scored a team-high four goals.
- The Sooners were slated eighth in the 10-member Big 12 Preseason Poll.
BAKERSFIELD AND PSU GAMES CANCELED:
- Due to poor air quality, Gonzaga's last two games against CSU Bakersfield and Portland State were both canceled.
TAKING CARE OF LUGER FIELD:
- Gonzaga has not dropped a home game to a non-conference opponent since a 2-0 loss to Oklahoma State on Sept. 13, 2015.
- Since that loss, the Zags are 9-0-3 against non-conference opponents, with five straight wins.
OUT OF THE GATES:
- Gonzaga has now won 12 of its 28 all-time season-opening matches.
- The Zags are unbeaten in their last seven season-openers, dating back to the 3-1 win over South Dakota in 2012. GU beat USD in last season's opener, 4-0.
- The Bulldogs have also won eight of its last 10 season-opening contests, with the lone setback coming in 2011 at Illinois.
SHOTS SHOTS SHOTS:
- Gonzaga's 26 shots in the season-opening win over Grand Canyon matched last year's season-high output, and were the most shots in a game since the Zags took 28 versus Utah State on Sept. 6, 2015.
- The Bulldogs' 17 shots on goal versus GCU were the most in the past 10 years.
- GU also equaled last year's season-high of 11 corner kicks against the Lopes.
FRESH FACES:
- A few new Zags debuted in a GU uniform against Grand Canyon.
- Freshman Gabriela Maas started in her first collegiate contest for Gonzaga.
- Alaysia Lane and Sophia Braun also made their debuts for the Bulldogs.
