SERIES NOTES:
vs. Texas State: This will be the first-ever meeting between Gonzaga and Texas State and only the second meeting between Gonzaga and a current Sun Belt member. In the only meeting between the Bulldogs and a current Sun Belt member, Gonzaga defeated UT Arlington 3-1 at the Cougar Classic in Pullman, Wash. on Aug. 29, 1997.
vs. Arizona State: This will be the sixth meeting between the Bulldogs and Sun Devils, and Arizona State holds a 4-1 advantage in the series including a 2-0 record in Tempe. The two programs have played each other often, facing each other four times in the last six seasons. In the last meeting, Gonzaga defeated the Sun Devils in five sets on Sept. 1, 2018 to earn its first win over ASU. Against current Pac-12 opponents, the Bulldogs are 17-73, but three of GU's wins have come in the last three seasons: at Utah (Aug. 27, 2016; W, 3-2), vs. Arizona State (Sept. 1, 2017; W, 3-2), at vs. California (Sept. 7, 2018; W, 3-2).
vs. Northern Arizona: This will be the third time the Bulldogs have faced NAU, and the first time since 2005. The series is tied 1-1, but the Lumberjacks hold a 1-0 advantage in neutral site matches having won the first-ever meeting 3-0 on Aug. 30, 2003 in Boise, Idaho. In the last meeting, GU defeated Northern Arizona 3-2 in Flagstaff, Ariz., on Sept. 17, 2005.
 
SCOUTING TEXAS STATE: The Bobcats return 10 letter winners and five starters plus a libero from last season's squad that finished 25-10 overall and advanced to the second round of the National Invitational Volleyball Championship. This season, TXST was picked to win the Sun Belt, and four players earned preseason all-conference nods: Micah Dinwiddie (Defensive Player of the Year), Madison Daigle (All-Sun Belt), Megan Porter (All-Sun Belt) and Amy Pflughaupt (All-Sun Belt). Through 13 matches, the Bobcats carry a 6-5 record and are averaging 13.4 kills per set hitting .220 to go along with 12.9 assists and 15.9 digs. TXST leads the Sun Belt in both kills and assists and ranks second in digs. Pflughaupt and Cheyenne Huskey lead the attack for the Bobcats with 3.36 and 3.08 kills per set, respectively, while Dinwiddie and Daigle lead the defense with 3.89 digs and 1.26 blocks per set, respectively.
 
 
SCOUTING ARIZONA STATE: Arizona State is coming off its worst season since finishing 9-22 overall in 2011. The Sun Devils finished the 2017 season with a 10-22 overall record including an 0-20 Pac-12 mark. The Sun Devils were picked to finish 11th in the Pac-12 and so far, ASU is 7-2 on the year with its two losses coming to Missouri and Wyoming. ASU averages 13.18 kills per set hitting .244 on the season to go along with 12.2 assists per set and 15.7 digs per set. The Sun Devils rank fourth in the Pac-12 in service aces with 2.0 per set and rank fifth in total kills with 424. Ivana Jeremic leads the attack for ASU with 3.54 kills per set, while six players average at least 2.0 digs per set led by Courtney Leffel with 3.9 per set.
 
SCOUTING NORTHERN ARIZONA: The Lumberjacks are coming off a historic weekend as NAU upended No. 8 Florida 3-2 on Sept. 7 for its first-ever win over a nationally-ranked opponent and the Big Sky's first since 2006. The 'Jacks are 7-3 overall on the season and were picked to finish 2nd in the Big Sky after returning all six of their starters plus their libero from last season's squad that finished 13-15 overall and 9-7 in conference play. 2017 All-Big Sky First Team selections Kaylie Jorgenson and Abby Akin return, in addition to Heaven Harris, a 2017 All-Big Sky Second Team selection and reigning Big Sky Outstanding Freshman. So far this season, the Lumberjacks are led by Jorgenson with 3.26 kills per set hitting .226 to go along with 4.10 digs per set. Akin adds 2.48 kills and a team-high 1.14 blocks per set while Jordan Anderson chips in a team-high 4.50 digs per set. As a squad, NAU averages 13.0 kills per set hitting at a .252 clip to go along with 12.3 assists and 18.5 digs.
 
HITTING THE HIGH NOTES:
Through the first five matches of the season Gonzaga was struggling to terminate. Of 727 swings, the Bulldogs recording 120 errors and hit at a .157 clip. In the last three matches, GU averaged 13.2 kills per set hitting .249 with just 53 errors on 425 attempts. Gonzaga's ability to terminate at a high level led to three wins, including the program's first win over California.
 
WELCOME TO THE CLUB:
Last weekend, senior libero Tiyana Hallums finished with 70 digs for a 5.83 per set average and helped the Bulldogs to a perfect 3-0 record. On Friday, Sept. 7 against Fresno State, Hallums finished with a team-high 28 digs to eclipse 1,000 career digs. She closed the weekend with 19 digs in GU's three-set sweep over Portland State, bringing her career-digs total to 1,050. Hallums now ranks fifth in program history in career digs during the rally scoring era and is 50 digs away from moving into fourth place.
 
PAC-12 SUCCESS:
Though Gonzaga carries a 17-73 overall record against the Pac-12, the Bulldogs have had great success against the Pac-12 in the last few seasons. Since 2016, Gonzaga has posted a 3-1 record against Pac-12 opponents: at Utah (W, 3-2, Aug. 27, 2016); vs. Arizona State (W, 3-2, Sept. 1, 2017); vs. Utah (L, 3-0, Aug. 31, 2018); vs. California (W, 3-2, Sept. 7, 2018).
