Men’s Soccer Suffers OT Loss at LMU, 1-0

Gonzaga was outshot 20-6 in the game

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Gonzaga men's soccer fended off nearly every challenge by LMU in the game, but a Lion goal in the first overtime was the difference in a 1-0 loss in Los Angeles on Saturday night.

The Zags (1-7-1, 0-1-0) and Lions (6-3-3, 1-0-0) were meeting in the West Coast Conference opener for each team and remained scoreless through the 90 minutes of regulation play, but LMU earned the overtime goal to take the win.

GU goalkeeper Johan Garibay made five saves in the game. Demitrius Kigeya led the way with two shots, while Cole Rovegno had GU's only shot on goal.

Gonzaga defended its end of the field well in the first half, keeping the Lions off the board with just two shots on goal.

In the second half, GU's defense was up to the task again, holding the Lions scoreless through regulation. Just under three minutes into the first overtime, LMU was able to get free inside the goal box and score the game-winning goal.

Gonzaga will be back on the road on Wednesday at No. 2-ranked Washington for its final non-conference match of the season. Check GoZags.com for links to live coverage.
