Women’s Soccer Opens WCC Play Saturday

Zags welcome San Diego to Luger Field

QUICK KICKS:
- Gonzaga opens West Coast Conference play at home against San Diego Saturday.
- The Zags closed non-conference play, winning seven of their 10 games.
- GU fell in its WCC season-opener last season, 3-1, at Brigham Young.
- Eight of GU's 10 matches this season have been decided by one goal, and the Zags are 5-3 in those games.
- The Bulldogs are 16th in the nation averaging 8.40 shots on goal per game, and 24th averaging 16.8 shots per outing. GU is second in the WCC in both of those.
- Freshman Lauren Elwer is 18th in the nation at 70.0 percent shot accuracy, which also tops the WCC.
- Gonzaga is 5-0-0 this season when leading at half so far this season, and 5-1-0 when scoring first.

SCOUTING THE TOREROS:
- San Diego has also had a break since Sept. 22.
- The Toreros were shutout at Utah, 1-0.
- Utah outshot USD, 13-6. Six different Toreros took a shot in the match. San Diego had five shots on goal. The Utes had six shots on frame.
- USD's Amber Michel made five saves in the loss.
- The Toreros played to a 1-1 draw at Utah Valley on Sept. 20. Bekah Valdez scored USD's goal.
- Michel had four saves in the San Diego net.
- Milan Moses has scored a team-high four goals, and has taken a team-high 29 shots, with 11 on goal.
- Halle Walls and Valdez have both scored two goals, while Jamie Goralski and Michaela Foster both have two assists.
- Michel has made 24 saves, with a .774 save percentage. Her goals against average is 0.85.
 
MOVING ON UP:
- The Zags' India Jencks and Sophia Viviano continue to climb in the program's Top-10 lists.
- Jencks rose to fifth in program history with 18 career goals, while Viviano is fifth with 11 career assists.
- Jencks is fifth with 44 career points, four from fourth, and Viviano moved into the Top-10 with 35 career points, which ranks 10th all-time at GU.
- Viviano's 121 career shots ranks eighth in program history, and Jencks' 110 shots are ninth.
 
LOOKING AHEAD ... at PORTLAND:
- Gonzaga makes it first road trip of West Coast Conference play at Portland on Oct. 5.
- The Zags beat Portland for the first time in program history in last season's meeting, 1-0, in Spokane.
- The Pilots lead the all-time series 25-1-1.
