SPOKANE, Wash. — Gonzaga men's tennis won both ends of a doubleheader against Seattle U by 7-0 scorelines on Saturday at the Stevens Center.
GU went through four total finished doubles matches and 12 singles matches without dropping a set between the two duals.
Match 1 – Gonzaga 7, Seattle U 0
Gonzaga held off a strong effort from Seattle U in doubles, but was able to maintain leads on all courts and earn the point.
Simon Homedes Dualde and
Emilio Moreno took the first point with a 6-3 win on No. 3, and
Kyle Everly and
Vincent Rettke clinched the point with a 6-4 win on No. 2.
In singles,
Sam Feit dominated the opening set in his match on the way to a 6-0, 6-2 win for the second Gonzaga point and a 2-0 lead.
On No. 5, Moreno won in straight sets for GU's third point with a 6-1, 6-3 victory. Then O'Sullivan sealed the victory with his own 6-3, 6-3 win on No. 2.
The Zags' Rettke pushed the lead to 5-0 with a 6-4, 6-1 victory. Rettke was down 1-4 in the first set, but won 11 of the final 12 games. Then won his match with a strong finish, 6-2, 7-5, taking the last four games of the match.
Matthew Perkins also grabbed a win on No. 6, earning a straight set win 6-1, 7-6(4).
Match 2 – Gonzaga 7, Seattle U 0
As dominating as GU was in the first match, the Zags came out even better in the second with another sweep.
Matthew Perkins teamed with
Vincent Rettke for a 6-1 win on No. 3, and then Feit and O'Sullivan clinched the point with a 6-4 win on No. 1.
Hunter Egger and Everly added a 6-4 win on No. 2.
Homedes Dualde earned the first singles win with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 6. That was followed quickly by a 6-2, 6-2 win from Feit on No. 2 and a 6-1, 6-4 win by Egger on No. 4 to clinch the match, up 4-0.
The Zags added wins by O'Sullivan on No. 1, 6-2, 6-0, Everly on No. 3, 6-2, 6-2, and finaly by Rettke on No. 5, 6-3, 6-1.
