SPOKANE, Wash. — Gonzaga men's tennis won the first of two matches against Seattle U, 7-0, on Saturday morning at the Stevens Center. The teams will be back on the courts at 3 p.m. for the second match.
Gonzaga held off a strong effort from Seattle U, but was able to maintain leads on all courts and earn the point.
Simon Homedes Dualde and
Emilio Moreno took the first point with a 6-3 win on No. 3, and
Kyle Everly and
Vincent Rettke clinched the point with a 6-4 win on No. 2.
In singles,
Sam Feit dominated the opening set in his match on the way to a 6-0, 6-2 win for the second Gonzaga point and a 2-0 lead.
On No. 5, Moreno won in straight sets for GU's third point with a 6-1, 6-3 victory. Then O'Sullivan sealed the victory with his own 6-3, 6-3 win on No. 2.
The Zags' Rettke pushed the lead to 5-0 with a 6-4, 6-1 victory. Rettke was down 1-4 in the first set, but won 11 of the final 12 games. Then won his match with a strong finish, 6-2, 7-5, taking the last four games of the match.
Matthew Perkins also grabbed a win on No. 6, earning a straight set win 6-1, 7-6(4).
