SPOKANE, Wash. — Gonzaga women's tennis cruised to a 4-0 sweep of visiting Pacific on Friday afternoon at the Stevens Center.
The Zags (9-9, 4-3) lost just one game combined in the two doubles matches that finished and then went on to straight set wins on Nos. 1, 3 and 5 to claim the victory over the Tigers (4-11, 1-5).
"We put together a solid effort today to get the win and prepare for what's ahead this weekend," head coach
D.J. Gurule said. "Saint Mary's is a quality team and will give us a great match tomorrow."
In doubles, GU's No. 22-ranked pair of
Sophie Whittle and
Graciela Rosas didn't drop a game in a 6-0 win on Court 1. Then on Court 3, the GU tandem of
Domonique Garley and
Sara Komer grabbed a 6-1 victory to claim the point.
In singles, it was more of the same for GU, led again by No. 11-ranked Whittle at the top of the lineup. She won 6-0, 6-2 to push the lead to 2-0. Garley then made it 3-0 with a 6-2, 6-3 win on No. 3 to set up the clinching point.
Junior
Kate Ketels put the final point on the board with her own straight set win on No. 5, 6-3, 6-2.
GU lead or was tied on all remaining courts.
Gonzaga will be back home on Saturday for the final home match of the season, taking on Saint Mary's at 12 p.m. The team's four seniors, Whittle, Garley, Komer and Rosas, will be honored prior to the start of the match. Links to live coverage will be available at GoZags.com.
