MORAGA, Calif. — Gonzaga men's tennis brought home its third league road win of the season with a 4-1 victory at Saint Mary's on Saturday in Moraga, Calif.
After dropping the doubles point, Gonzaga (15-7, 6-2) regrouped in singles and won all four matches that finished against the Gaels (5-15, 3-6).
"The guys managed to step up in singles and get the work done," head coach
Jonas Piibor said. "We are looking forward to get back home and get ready for a good Portland team next Saturday on Senior Day.
We encourage the whole community to come to the Stevens Center to cheer on the team and our two seniors, Ruadhan and Emilio, for their last regular season match."
GU grabbed one win at No. 3 in doubles, 6-1, from
Simon Homedes Dualde and
Emilio Moreno, but Saint Mary's won a tiebreaker on No. 2 to secure the point.
In singles, however, it was a different story, as GU seized the momentum with a 6-2, 6-3 win by
Vincent Rettke at No. 4, and a 6-4, 6-4 win by Moreno at No. 5.
Now in the lead 2-1, GU got another 7-6, 6-2 win from
Sam Feit at No. 1 and a three-set come-from-behind victory by
Ruadhan O'Sullivan at No. 2. O'Sullivan dropped the first set 0-6, but won the last two 7-5 and 6-2 to clinch the match.
Gonzaga will return home for its final match of the regular season on Saturday at 11 a.m. The Zags will honor their two seniors,
Ruadhan O'Sullivan and
Emilio Moreno during the day as well. Links to live coverage will be available at GoZags.com.
