LOS ANGELES – Gonzaga baseball managed just one run in an 8-1 loss on Saturday at Loyola Marymount in Los Angeles, Calif.

The Lions (29-22, 15-11) scored all eight runs in the first five innings to take a commanding lead over the Gonzaga (29-22, 17-9). The loss assures GU of no higher than the No. 2 seed in the West Coast Conference Tournament.

"We got outplayed tonight, and we have to tip our hat to their starter [Josh Agnew]," head coach Mark Machtolf said. "We are looking forward to a better effort tomorrow and getting some momentum heading into Stockton [WCC Tournament]."

GU got two hits each from Isaac Barrera and Daniel Fredrickson, along with a double and RBI from Ernie Yake to lead the offense. Starter Mac Lardner lasted 4.2 innings, allowing eight runs (seven earned) on 11 hits with four strikeouts. Reliever Taylor Davis turned in a dominant outing, finishing the final 3.1 innings with eight strikeouts and just two hits allowed.

The Lions jumped on the board right from the start, getting two in the first and one more in the second before GU could score. The Zags got one back in the third when Ernie Yake doubled home Isaac Barrera, but LMU came right back with one in the fourth for a 4-1 lead.

The Lions added four more runs in the fifth inning to take a big lead into the final innings.

GU got a two-out double by Fredrickson in the ninth, but the Zags weren't able to convert.

Gonzaga and LMU will wrap up their three-game series and GU's regular season schedule on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Los Angeles. Links to live coverage will be available at GoZags.com.
