SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference is pleased to announce the 2018-19 West Coast Conference Women's Rowing All-Academic Team. Seventeen student-athletes were named to the first team, including five Bulldogs, while Gonzaga's
Olivia Lada was one of two WCC student-athletes to earn the honor for the third year straight.
Gonzaga led the way with five honorees on the WCC All-Academic First Team with six honorable mention selections.
Zoe Calambokidis,
Lauren English and Lada, who won the WCC Championship with the varsity eight, along with
Maren Johnson and
Schuyler Peters, who led the second varsity eight to a WCC Championship, were selected to the all-academic first team. Calambokidis, a sophomore, carries a 3.81 GPA and is undecided on a major; English, a senior, has a 3.7 GPA and is majoring in nursing; Lada, also a senior, carries a 3.91 GPA while majoring in history; Johnson, a junior, is majoring in economics and has a 3.92 GPA and Peters, a sophomore, has a 3.91 GPA and is majoring in political science.
Sixteen of this year's 17 honorees turned a 3.80 GPA or better, led by for the second-straight season by San Diego's Clare Adams who turned a 3.99 GPA as an international relations major. In all, 47 rowers achieved a 3.50 GPA while 29 reached the 3.75 mark.
The six honorable mention selections for Gonzaga included
Kayla Buchmeier, 3.56 GPA and finance major,
Lindey English, 3.44 GPA and nursing major,
Casey Harder, 3.23 GPA and environmental studies major,
Alexa Jadallah, 3.43 GPA and marketing major,
Charlotte Lepp, 3.32 GPA and finance major, and
Alexandra Pinkley, 3.34 GPA and biology major.
At the conclusion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each WCC-sponsored sport. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, while also being a significant contributor to her team.
