SEATTLE – Gonzaga's
James Mwaura ran the second-fastest indoor 3,000-meter time in school history on the second day of the UW Invitational inside the Dempsey Center Saturday.
Mwaura crossed the line at 7:59.09, placing ninth overall in the event. Troy Fraley set the program record in the Dempsey Center in 2016 at 7:57.16. Mwaura became just the second Zag ever to run a sub-eight-minute 3K. He placed in his heat and was the fifth-fastest collegian.
Cullen McEachern ran a 10-second personal record, crossing the line at 8:12.89, which ranks seventh on the GU all-time list. McEachern was second in his heat, followed closely by
Ben Hogan, who was third with a time of 8:13.50. Hogan's five-second personal record is No. 9 in program history.
Evan Bates (8:20.32) and
Luke Mason (8:22.13) rounded out the Bulldog finishes.
"Ultimately, this was one of the greatest trips to Dempsey in Zag history," Director of GU Track
Pat Tyson said. "10 for 10 this weekend! Love the fight by the guys!"
Aimee Piercy placed second in her heat of the women's 3,000 meters with a time of 9:42.32. She climbed from fourth to third on the program's all-time list.
In the women's mile,
Ally Legard ran to a 5:04.82 finish.
Paxton Depoe was close behind at 5:06.97. The freshman's finish ranks ninth in GU history.
Claire Gillett had a 5:08.65 finish.
Gonzaga returns to the University of Idaho for the D1 Team Invitational Challenge Friday.
