SEATTLE – Gonzaga's
Aimee Piercy set the women's indoor 3,000-meter program record on the first day of the Husky Classic inside the Demspey Center Friday.
Piercy crossed the line at 9:34.86, breaking Shelby Mills' previous record of 9:35.31. Piercy's previous personal best was 9:42.32, which ranked third on the GU all-time list. She placed fifth in her heat Friday.
James Mwaura ran the second-fastest indoor 3,000-meter time in men's program history at 7:57.74. He nearly broke Troy Fraley's school record of 7:57.16. Mwaura placed fourth in his heat and 16
th overall.
"James ran a near perfect race," Director of GU Track
Pat Tyson said. "The pace went out fast coming through the first mile in 4:13, and James was in the hunt! Eight guys were feeding off sub-8:00 pace with 500 meters to go. Coming down the final turn, James would swing wide and chase the finish line in a four-man photo finish."
Peter Hogan moved from eighth to seventh on the program's all-time list with an 8:12.69 finish.
Cullen McEachern crossed the line at 8:18.25, while
Luke Mason's time was 8:30.36.
In the men's 5,000 meters,
Dominic Arce and
Myles Bach had 14:30.38 and 14:37.78 finishes.
Riley Moore (14:49.20) and
Phillip Fishburn (14:52.98) rounded out the GU times.
