"I want to thank the athletic department as a whole for always looking out for my best interest. After GU I'm hoping US economy doesn't slip into a recession and I get a job! To me, GU means love and family."

“Cluss” hails from Rocklin, California. Pretty good over all range as a distance runner as he flirted with 1500, 5000, and 10,000 meters during his Bulldog career. Andrew was a tough competitor. Never forgot his race two years ago at Bryan Clay Los Angeles. Shoe pops off with over 600 meters to go in his heat of a 1500! He would close sub 60 last 400 and nearly win his race. Our number five guy at NCAA regional XC Sacramento 2018. He too battled injury but always lined up and gave his best.

"The program Pat Tyson built here at GU is something special. I am so happy I got to spend five years in it, working to find out who I am as not just an athlete and teammate but as a person too. My time here has given me memories I'll cherish my entire life, wouldn't have wanted anything different. I am still wrapping up the details, but I will be living in Spokane after GU and working in finance. I will be continuing to run on my own after GU as well. GU means the world to me. Gonzaga changed my life in so many ways, all of them positives. I found a family within Gonzaga that I will carry throughout my life. I'm lucky to have had such a great experience during my college years with the community and family GU has given me. We're all Zags for life!"

Bennett has been a positive billboard for Gonzaga distance running! He is such a positive force in our program. Bennett competed at multiple WCC XC Championships. Had some great races along the way. With that, came some injuries and illness that didn’t take away Bennett’s commitment to the team.
He is a terrific student and led by example with community service. We’ll miss the kid from Palos Verdes, California.

"Gonzaga and the athletic department have given me an amazing family the past five years and for the rest of my life. I couldn’t have had the same experience anywhere else and I have to thank my team and coaches for this once in a lifetime opportunity. I am forever grateful for what Gonzaga and Tyson have given me. Without Coach Tyson’s belief, I never could have became the runner I did and would have missed out on being a part of this family. Wearing the jersey and representing Gonzaga is something I will never forget and I can’t wait to come back every year as an alumni and celebrate the teams accomplishments. As for my plans in the future, next year I will begin working as a tax accountant at Moss Adams in Seattle."

What a terrific young man, Ciaran O’Leary out of Bishop Blanchet of Seattle. Ciaran was a walk on! A grinder! He made our top seven and compete at Notre Dame Invitational this past fall. He wore the jersey at the West Coast Conference Championships as well. He was living the dream! He trusted! He believed! Knocked a homer in with his academics too.

"Never stop learning even though things may not turn out how you expect them to, there is always something that you have learned and can use in how you want to live your live. After these four years at GU I’ve learned a lot about who I am and what I envision myself becoming. While I may have struggled a bit athletically and academically, I found that it was necessary for me to know what it takes to come out a better person. The struggle is vital for success. GU ultimately helped grow my love for the sport of running and am grateful for that. I’ve built many relationships with teammates, coaches and classmates. These relationships will never be forgotten. My plan as of right now is to work in Boulder, Colo., for NOAA working as an electrical engineer."

Jonah is a fine young man who arrived out of Richland High School Washington State. His career in Zag running was primarily a middle-distance guy. Although injured at times, Jonah kept plugging along. He fought hard! He would ace his academics and helped GUXCTF make multiple WCC and NCAA All-Academic Teams. Definitely a team guy, we’ll miss Jonah Sandoval.

"I had the best time of my life running and studying at Gonzaga! Big thanks to all the staff that supported me through my running career! After Gonzaga, I’m going to be working as a nurse at Sacred Heart’s Neurology Unit. To me, Gonzaga means getting to know new friends and new possibilities."

Hunter comes out of the Spokane Valley Area and University High School. We love the local guys. What I loved about Hunter is his perseverance. He had a very challenging academic load with nursing pretty much owning you. He fought hard and did everything I asked of him. The classic 10K grinder. We’ll miss the kid.

"I want to say thank you to my coaches, teammates, and family for making these last four years so memorable. They’ve supported me through the lows and the highs and have always help me move forward. I will always cherish the relationships I’ve built with my coaches and teammates Currently, I don’t have any set plans for what I’ll be doing after GU. Gonzaga means family to me. The relationships I’ve built with the GU community and my team are ones that are going to last a lifetime. I am grateful to GU for giving me that opportunity."

Love Daniel Thompson! The young man out of Central Catholic High school totally bought in. He wanted to really help this team but fought injury and illness at times. Still, he had moments of brilliance. Truly passionate about Gonzaga and distance running. Daniel is a Zag for life.

"I want to thank all the people who have been a part of this journey and made Gonzaga so special to me. After graduation I will be moving back home, looking for a job in the footwear industry, and spending a lot of time in the great outdoors. Gonzaga means many things to me. Most importantly I will always be reminded how amazing my team, coaches, and running have been the last five years."

Sammy will be missed! He is our Mr. Emotion! Mr. Team Cheerleader! He cares so much about our success! Sammy ends up as our No. 4 Steeplechase runner of all time (8:55.95). We’ll miss his high energy but know he’ll be at many of our competitions and alumni events throughout his life! Sammy is a Zag!

"Deciding to do my fifth and final year of eligibility at a new school was far from an easy decision. To leave Portland meant leaving a familiar place and good friends behind for an uncertain future. Fortunately, I had the pleasure of growing close to a great set of people who I am proud to have called my teammates and my brothers. Even though my final and most promising start to the season was cut short, I intend to continue running post-collegiately in Portland. In continuing with my passion for lab work from my time as a biology major, I am pursuing a career as a research assistant. Overall, I am thankful for all the great experiences that I was able to share with my brothers. I will always have fond memories of my time at Gonzaga."

We only had Cobie for one year as a graduate transfer from the University of Portland. The California native truly showed the gift of being an NCAA D-1 caliber middle distance runner. Would have been fun to see how he would have run this spring at Stanford, Bryan Clay and the Penn Relays. So much to watch in practice and indoors. We’ll be hearing great things about Cobie as he chases his dreams!
