Eugene, Ore. – The Zags wrapped up day one of the ITA Northwest Regional Championships today with five Zags claiming victories and moving onto round three tomorrow.
Entering the tournament with six first round byes, only freshman Arthus de la Bassetiere competed in the round of 64, notching a 6-0, 6-1, sweep over Seattle's Jayden Harrison.
In the round of 32, top seed sophomore Sasha Trkulja took down Nima Movassaghi of Oregon, 6-1, 6-0. Junior Matthew Hollingworth, who was upgraded to the two seed late Monday night, lived up to that ranking by defeating Seattle's Mats Krause, 6-2, 6-2. Graduate Tom Hann fought hard against Avi Shugar of Oregon and battled from behind to win, 5-7, 6-4, 6-0. Junior Oliver Andersson won in straight-sets over Washington's Adam Torocsik, 6-3, 6-4. De la Bassetiere took his second match of the day over Nicklas Oberg of Portland 6-3, 6-4.
Sophomore Pablo Gomez Galvan took on Portland's Nikolas Tvedt where he battled hard but fell in three sets, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2. Junior Leon Roider also fell in the round of 32, losing to Washington's Jack Pulliam 1-6 6-1 7-6 [3].
TOMORROW:
In the main draw bracket, Trkulja will take on Seattle's Veselin Kiselkov. Hollingworth will go against Washington's Rikuto Yamaguchi. Oliver Andersson will take on Oregon's Ryoma Matsushita. Arthus de la Bassetiere will go up against Oregon's Ryoma Matsushita. Matches start at 9 a.m.
In the doubles bracket, Hollingworth and Trkulja will enter as the third seed and will start with a first round bye going straight to the round of 16. Hann and Gomez Galvan will also earn a first round bye and will face Portland State. Andersson and Roider will face Seattle in the round of 32 starting at 9 a.m.
In the consolation bracket, Pablo Gomez Galvan will take on Eastern Washington's Manuel Balce and Leon Roider will take on Tommy Hsu of Portland State.
