Eugene, Ore. – Four Zags move onto the quarterfinals as the Bulldogs wrap up day two of the ITA Northwest Regional Championships. Top seeded sophomore Sasha Trkulja, second seed junior Matthew Hollingworth, freshman Arthus de la Bassetiere and junior Oliver Andersson won to move on to the quarterfinals Friday.
Trkulja won in straight sets over Seattle's Veselin Kiselkov 7-5, 6-3. He will go up against Luke Vandecasteele of Oregon next. Hollingworth took down Rikuto Yamaguchi of Washington 6-1, 6-2 and Arthus de la Bassetiere defeated Oregons Ryoma Matsushita 6-2, 6-3. Hollingworth and de la Bassetiere will meet in the quarterfinals. Andersson defeated Eleftherios Neos of Portland, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 to move onto the next round, where he will take on Washington's Nedim Suko.
Graduate Tom Hann battled, but fell to Han-Chih Lin of Washington, 6-2, 7-5.
In the consolation bracket, sophomore Pablo Gomez Galvan moved on after taking down Eastern Washington's Manuel Balce, 6-4, 6-3. He will take in Erik Sarlvik of Eastern Washington next. Junior Leon Roider defeated Lars Schmassmann of Seattle, 6-1, 6-0. He will go against Seattle's Michael Frank next.
In the doubles bracket, Hollingworth and Trkulja teamed up to take down Seattle's Julian Worn and Michael Frank, 8-3. They will take on Portland next. Hann and Gomez Galvan took down Nils Plutat and Tommy Hsu of Portland State, 8-6. Andersson and Roider were the last Zags team, winning in the first round, 8-4, over Seattle's Veselin Kiselkov and Filip Stipic but fell to Washington's Han-Chih Lin and Rikuto Yamaguchi, 8-3.
TOMORROW:
In the main draw bracket, Sasha Trkulja will take on Oregon's Luke Vandecasteele and Arthus de la Bassetiere and Matthew Hollingworth will square off for a chance to move to the semi-finals.
In the doubles bracket, Hollingworth and Trkulja will take on Julien Penzlin and Nikolas Tvedt of Portland while Hann and Gomez Galvan will square off against Sema Pankin and Eleftherios Neos of Portland.
In the consolation bracket, Pablo Gomez Galvan will take on Eastern Washington's Erik Sarlvik and Leon Roider will take on Michael Frank of Seattle.
