EUGENE, Ore. – The Gonzaga men's tennis team wrapped up competition in the ITA North Regionals.
In singles action, sophomore Sasha Trkulja defeated Oregon's Luke Vandecasteele in straight-sets, 7-5, 6-3.
Freshman Arthus de la Bassetiere and junior Matthew Hollingworth went against each other, and de la Bassetiere came out on top in a three-set battle, 7-6 (5), 2-6, 6-2.
With their quarterfinal wins, Trkulja and de la Bassetiere advanced to the semi-finals, but did not compete against each other.
Sophomore Oliver Andersson went to a three-set battle, but fell to Washington's Nedim Suko 7-6 (7), 2-6, 4-6.
In doubles, junior Matthew Hollingworth and Sash Trkulja defeated Portland 6-1, 6-3 in the semi-final round. The duo did not play in the final round. Graduate Tom Hann and sophomore Pablo Gomez Galvan also went against Portland in doubles, but fell 6-1, 6-2.
Hollingworth and de la Bassetiere went against each other, and de la Bassetiere came out on top in a three-set battle, 7-6 (5), 2-6, 6-2.
UP NEXT
The Bulldogs travel to the ITA Northwest Super Regionals in Seattle, Wash., with the tournament running from Oct. 22-24. The team then closes out the fall schedule by hosting the Gonzaga Invitational on Oct. 29-31.
