Tulsa, Oklahoma/Tucson, Arizona – The Bulldogs continued their fall tournament season today playing in two tournaments. The Zags kicked off the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma today and finished up day two of the Arizona Invitational.
In Tulsa, Matthew Hollingworth and Sasha Trkulja compeatedi n the ITA All-American. Hollingworth put up a hard fought match, but fell to Anuj Watane, 7-5, 6-1. Sasha Trkulja won his first round match in straight sets over Rafael Tosetto of Tennessee Tech, 6-4, 6-4. He continued to win, defeating Nam Pham of Illinois State, 6-3, 4-6, [10-7], moving on to the round of 64. He will play tomorrow at 6 am PST.
In Arizona, the Zags finished up day two of the Arizona Invitational. Arthus Bassetiere won in straight sets over Gijs Akkermans of New Mexico State, 6-2, 6-1. Leon Roider also won in straight sets over Chris Steele of Northern Arizona University, 6-3, 6-1. They will both play at 6 am PST in their bracket finals.
Theo McDonald also took a victory in the consolation bracket, defeating New Mexico State, 6-1, 6-2.
Pablo Gomez Galvan, Oliver Andersson and Tom Hann all battle hard but fell short today. Gomez Galvan fell to Gustaf Strom of the University of Arizona, 6-3, 6-3. Andersson was defeated by Hiroki Sakagawa of the University of Arizona, 6-1, 7-6 (7-5) and Tom Hann was taken down by Dominik Buzonicsfrom Northern Arizona University, 7-4, 3-6, 6-2. They will all play in consolation matches tomorrow.
In the doubles bracket, all three Zag teams fell short today, with the teams of Arthus Bassetiere/Theo McDonald falling to New Mexico, 6-4, Oliver Andersson/Leon Roider fell to the University of Arizona 7-5 and Tom Hann/Pablo Galvan fell short against Northern Arizona 7-6 (7-5). They will all play in consolation matches tomorrow.
The Zags will finish up the Arizona Invitational tomorrow starting at 6 am PST. Trkulja will continue his journey in the round of 64 starting at 6 am PST as well.
