SPOKANE, Wash. – The Gonzaga men's soccer team played its second game of the week against No. 24 Santa Clara and fell 4-1 on Luger Field.
The Bulldogs (7-8, 2-3 West Coast Conference) got on the scoreboard first with junior
Demitrius Kigeya finding the back of the net in the seventh minute. The score is Kigeya's fifth of the year as he leads the team in scoring. The goal was assisted by
Devin Slingsby, his first on the season.
Santa Clara (10-1-3, 4-0-1 WCC) responded in the 26th minute with a goal from Oladayo Thomas and assisted by Joshua Dabora.
The half ended tied at 1-1 as both teams took five shots in the first 45 minutes of action.
In the 60th minute, Javiar Ruiz Duran scored a goal for the Broncos with an assist from Tyrone Kirunda to give Santa Clara the 2-1 advantage.
In the final ten minutes of play, the Broncos scored two more goals. The third score of the night came from Ruiz Duran in the 86th minute, assisted by Dylan Bartlett. The fourth goal was scored in the 88th minute from Eduardo Lopez Perez with the assist from Ruiz Duran.
The Bulldogs outshot the Broncos 11-10 on the night. Kigeya, sophomore
Leon Sitz, and freshman
Wylie Trujillo led the team with two shots a piece. Kigeya and junior
Frankie Ljucovic both recorded a shot on goal as well.
