WBB Takes Down Montana on the Road, 67-60

The Zags scored 31 points from the bench

MISSOULA, Mont. – The Gonzaga women's basketball team traveled to Montana for the first road game of the season and defeated the Griz, 67-60.

Three Zags scored in double figures for Gonzaga with junior Kayleigh Truong recording 13, Cierra Walker with 10 and junior Kaylynne Truong scoring a team-high of 15 points.

The Bulldogs had to come from behind in the first half as Montana led 10-4 early in the game. Gonzaga responded with a 7-0 run to lead by one, with layups from Kaylynne Truong, Yvonne Ejim and a three pointer from McKayla Williams.

In the second quarter, Kaylynne Truong scored six points for the Zags and dished out one assist. Ejim went to work under the basket and recorded five rebounds and four points. Overall, Gonzaga shot 42.4 percent from the floor as Montana shot at 50 percent.

To end the first half, freshman Bree Salenbien made a buzzer beater three pointer to give GU the 36-28 advantage and the largest lead of the game at that point.

Gonzaga continued its momentum into the third quarter as Kayleigh Truong got the score going for GU with a second-chance jumper. Cierra Walker led the Bulldogs in scoring in the third, recording seven and draining one three-pointer.

In the fourth quarter, Kayleigh Truong scored five points and recorded one rebound for the Bulldogs. Gonzaga stayed on top of Montana in the fourth to close out the win, holding UM to a 28.6 shooting percentage.

Overall, the Zags scored 31 points from the bench and 30 in the paint. Gonzaga forced 11 turnovers and scored 16 points off them. GU also outrebounded the Griz, 42-30.

Records: The Bulldogs move to 2-0 on the season as Montana falls to 1-1 overall.

The Zags now have won nine-straight against the Griz and moves to 14-3 overall since 1999.

Anamaria Virjoghe led the team with 10 rebounds, a career-high for the senior.

Next Up: Gonzaga returns home to play defending Big Sky Champions, Idaho State on Thursday, Nov. 18.
