Women’s Soccer Falls in Final Minutes at Oregon

Ducks score game-winning goal in 87th minute

EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon defeated the Gonzaga women's soccer team scoring the game-winning goal in the 87th minute Sunday.
 
After opening the season with a 5-1 win at Dixie State Wednesday, the Zags drop their first game of the season. Sunday's game was the Ducks' (1-0) season-opener.
 
The Bulldogs (1-1) outshot Oregon, 4-0, in the opening half. GU finished the game with a 9-5 advantage in shots taken, but it was Oregon that held a 3-2 edge in shots on goal.
 
Ducks forward Ally Cook matched a game-high with two shots, and found the back of the net with just three minutes left in regulation. Chai Cortez was credited with the assist.
 
The Zags also had an advantage in corner kicks, having four to the Ducks' two. GU goalkeeper Lyza Bosselmann had two saves, the same as Oregon's goalkeeper Leah Freeman.
 
The Bulldogs are scheduled to host Southern Utah Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
