Third-straight season Zags have been ranked to close the year

Final Rankings

TEMPE, Ariz. –
For the third-straight complete season, Gonzaga women's tennis is ranked in the final Oracle Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings, coming in at No. 72. The Zags earned rankings in 2018 (No. 64) and 2019 (No. 51); the 2020 season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"We are extremely proud of the girls and what they were able to accomplish in such difficult circumstances," said Head Coach D.J. Gurule. "This ranking is a testament to the hard work and dedication our team had throughout the year. We are so excited for the future and know that the sky is the limit for this team."
A veteran crew led the Zags in 2021, led by All-WCC performers and fifth-year Zags Kate Ketels and Haruna Tsuruta, fifth-year transfer Hannah Jones and junior transfer Adrianna Sosnowska. The seasoned crew was dominate to open the season, rattling off four-straight victories in the first four weeks. By the start of the West Coast Conference slate in late March, Gonzaga boasted an 8-3 overall record.

Sophomore Cate Broerman led the Zags in singles play, finishing with a team-best 15-1 overall record while competing most often at the No. 3 singles position. The Scottsdale, Ariz., native opened the season with a 13-match win streak; she finished with a 6-1 overall record in league play, earning her first career All-WCC Singles Honorable Mention, while her .938 singles win percentage is a program record.

Broerman was one of five Zags to earn All-WCC honors as Ketels and Tsuruta were also named All-WCC Singles Honorable Mention in addition to All-WCC Doubles Honorable Mention, becoming the first Zag duo since 2018 to earn All-WCC Doubles Honorable Mention honors. Ketels and Tsuruta paired together most often at No. 2 doubles, combining for an 8-6 overall record.

Jones and Sosnowska also shined in doubles play, teaming up in doubles play to earn Gonzaga's first-ever All-WCC Doubles Second Team honor. The duo played together at the No. 1 doubles position for most of the season, posting an 8-6 overall record including a 4-3 overall record in WCC play with one match left unfinished. The duo's four conference wins ranks tied-for-seventh all-time in program history.

Gonzaga's season came to a close with its final WCC regular-season match at San Diego on April 28.

The Zags graduate four from the 2021 squad but welcome back seven in addition to graduate transfer Frederikke Svarre and four-star recruit Caroline Wernli for the 2021-22 campaign.
