Men’s Soccer Defeat UC Davis, 1-0

The victory is Gonzaga’s first win over the Aggies

DAVIS, Calif. – In the first road game of the season, the men's soccer team defeated UC Davis 1-0 with a late goal from freshman Logan Dorsey. The win marks the first one of the season for Gonzaga and for head coach Aaron Lewis. Dorsey also recorded his first career goal in a GU uniform.

"I am thrilled to see the boys rewarded for their hard work this fall," Lewis said. "They weathered a couple storms from a good UC Davis team until they were able to get on the front foot. This was a big-time effort from our entire squad."

The Zags came out strong in the first half, recording seven shots and three of those on goal. Freshman Jorge Aspas came off the bench to lead the team in shots, taking three and one of them being on net.

Going into the second half at 0-0, the Zags came out aggressive with a corner kick in the first three minutes and two shots back-to-back from sophomore Loic Baures and Aspas, both coming in the 64th minute.

In the 85th minute, Dorsey had a one-on-one opportunity with the goalie and found the back of the net to propel the Bulldogs to the 1-0 victory. Gonzaga held onto the lead by only allowing two more shots from the Aggies in the final five minutes of the contest.

Redshirt sophomore Johan Garibay also collected his first win and shutout of the season in net, recording five saves on the night despite the Bulldogs being outshot 20-10.
