Five Zags scored in double-digits in the WCC road win

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Gonzaga women's basketball team exploded on offense to win its second-straight West Coast Conference game at the University of Pacific, 92-51.

Five players scored in double-digits for the Bulldogs, which was the first time that has happened since Feb. 9, 2019, against Portland.

Freshman Bree Salenbien led the team with a career-best performance of 14 points as she shot 4-for-4 from beyond the arc in only 14 minutes of play.

Junior Kayleigh Truong was right behind with 13 points and five assists. Senior Melody Kempton and junior Kaylynne Truong both scored 12 points as Kempton recorded a team-high eight rebounds and Kaylynne also dished out five assists. Senior Cierra Walker rounded out the double figure scoring effort with 10 points and two rebounds.

Defensively, the Zags held the Tigers to their lowest scoring effort of the season with their previous season-low of 60 points at San Jose State on Nov. 20. The Zags also held Pacific to a 25.4 shooting performance and outrebounded the Tigers 49-33.

From the beginning of the game, GU came out strong with a bucket from Walker. With only about four minutes left to play, the Zags took a 20-7 lead with Kempton making a layup.

At the end of the first, Gonzaga led 26-7 and was shooting at 73.3 percent. The Bulldogs only allowed seven points and held the Tigers to a 7.7 shooting percentage.

In the second quarter, Gonzaga scored another 25 points and held Pacific to only seven again. The Zags were shooting 55.6 percent from beyond the arc and outrebounded UP 15-9.

At halftime, Gonzaga led 51-14 with Kempton leading the team with eight points and four rebounds. Kayleigh Truong also recorded eight points and gave out two assists. Sophomore Yvonne Ejim also had an impressive first half showing with seven points, five rebounds and two blocks.

Coming out of the locker room, GU kept the pressure on as the team had another 25-point quarter. The Bulldogs scored four more three-pointers and scored 12 points off fast break opportunities.

In the fourth quarter, Gonzaga grabbed seven offensive rebounds and shot at 50 percent from beyond the arc, adding to its 14 three-pointers throughout the contest.

Overall, the Zags scored 36 points inside the paint and had 49 points from off the bench. GU also cashed in on turnovers, scoring 31 points off Pacific's miscues.

Records: Gonzaga moves to 11-4 on the season and 2-0 in the WCC. Pacific falls to 3-10 and 0-2 in conference play.

The Bulldogs scored 51 points in the first half, the first time recording that many points in a half since Feb. 9, 2019, against Portland.

This marked the first 90-point performance from Gonzaga since Nov. 10, 2019 against CSU-Bakersfield.
