SPOKANE, Wash. – The Gonzaga men's tennis season started off with a 2-0 start by sweeping Seattle and Nevada today, 4-0, in both matches.

In the first match against Seattle, No. 25 Matthew Hollingworth and Sasha Trkulja teamed up to compete in the No. 1 doubles spot and won 6-3 over Michael Frank and Mats Krause. Tom Hann and Arthus de la Bassetiere clinched the doubles point in the No. 3 spot with a 6-2, win over Billy Givens-Jensen and Oliver Hall.

In singles, Trkulja played in the first spot and won 6-1, 6-2, over Veselin Kiselkov. Hollingworth played in the No. 2 position and won 6-1, 6-0 over Filip Stipic. Senior Theo McDonald sealed the win for the Zags in the No. 6 spot by defeating Jayden Harrison, 6-2, 6-2.

In the afternoon match against Nevada, Hollingworth and Trkulja won 6-3 against Juan Baalla and Ambroise Marchand in the No. 1 spot. Hann and Bassetiere clinched the doubles point again in the No. 3 position with a 6-2 victory over Delmas N'Tcha and Gilas Tamar.

Oliver Andersson claimed the first victory in singles with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Loris Ziswiller in the No. 3. Hollingworth went on to defeat Juan Batalla, 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 2 position to give the Zags a 3-0 lead in the match. Leon Roider clinched the match for Gonzaga with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Satchel Benn in the No. 6 position.

The rest of the matches went unfinished once the Bulldogs clinched the win in both competitions.

The Zags continue competition tomorrow, Saturday Jan. 22 at 10 a.m. as the team takes on Montana State at the Stevens Center.  The live stream can be found at GoZags.com along with Twitter and Instagram, @ZagMTennis.
