WBB Defeats Pepperdine on the Road, 66-54

Three Zags scored in double digits to extend their winning streak to five


MALIBU, Calif. – The Gonzaga women's basketball team won its 10th-straight game over Pepperdine, 66-54, to stay undefeated in the West Coast Conference.

The Bulldogs were led by senior Melody Kempton, who scored 14 points and grabbed six rebounds. Sophomore Eliza Hollingsworth was right behind her with a career-high 12 points and junior Kaylynne Truong rounded out the double-figure scoring efforts with 11 points and five assists.
In the first quarter, Kempton led the crew with eight points and two rebounds as the senior went 4-for-4 from the charity stripe.
Defensively, Gonzaga force five turnovers and scored eight-points off Pepperdine's miscues. The team shot at 41.7 percent from the field and junior Kayleigh Truong scored the lone three-pointer for the Zags in the opening 10 minutes.
At the end of the first, the Bulldogs were up 18-11 and kept the momentum going into the second. Kaylynne Truong opened up scoring with a three-pointer, which was quickly followed by another jumper by Kayleigh Truong to give Gonzaga a 12-point lead.
Senior Cierra Walker popped off late in the second with back-to-back three pointers to maintain GU's double-figure lead as she led the team in the quarter with six points.
Both Kempton and freshman Bree Salenbien led the team with two rebounds in the second quarter to help outrebound the Waves 18-13 overall in the opening half.
At the half, the Zags took a 39-25 lead and was shooting at 46.2 percent overall and 91.7 percent from the free throw line.
In the third quarter, the Bulldogs were paced by Hollingsworth, who scored 10 points after going 4-for-4, including two three-pointers.
During the final quarter, Kaylynne Truong led the team with six points and one steal. Kempton also recorded four points in the final quarter to seal the 66-54 win over the Waves.
Overall, the Bulldogs had 30 points come off the bench and 14 inside the paint. The Zags also forced 17 turnovers and scored 22 points off those. On the boards, Gonzaga outrebounded Pepperdine 34-32 as GU grabbed 12 offensive rebounds.
Records: GU moves to 15-4 overall and 6-0 in the WCC. Pepperdine falls to 4-9 and 0-4 in the conference.
