Box Score SAN FRANCISCO – The Gonzaga women's soccer team cruised to a 4-0 victory at San Francisco Saturday. It was the West Coast Conference opener for both teams.
The Bulldogs (6-2-2, 1-0-0 WCC) won their fifth straight game, while outscoring opponents 17-1 during the streak. It was GU's first win at USF since 2014 and only the third in program history.
Gonzaga outshot the Dons 13-11 and had a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal. The Zags took seven of the match's 12 corner kicks.
Erin Healy scored her 20
th career goal, which ranks fourth all-time at GU, in the 39
th minute. She struck a ball from just outside the box that went through the USF goalkeeper's hands.
Two minutes into the second half,
Grace Courter scored her first collegiate goal off a corner kick. She kicked in a loose ball that snuck through the box.
In the 51
st minute,
Giana Riley and
Kate Doyle connected for the Zags' third goal of the game. Doyle kicked in a low shot with her left foot for her second goal of the season and eighth of her career. It was Riley's third assist of the season, and the seventh straight game the freshman recorded a point.
Doyle recorded an assist in the 62
nd minute on
Lauren Elwer's 11
th career goal. Elwer's third goal of the season was a strike to the bottom left corner of the net.
Lyza Bosselmann made four saves in the Gonzaga net, while Megan Nail had three for USF (5-3-3, 0-1-0 WCC).
Maddie Kemp led the Bulldogs with four shots, and Marissa Vasquez had four shots for the Dons.
After four straight road games, the Zags return home for a matchup with No. 17 Pepperdine (7-1-2, 1-0-0) Wednesday. The Waves opened WCC play with a 3-0 shutout win at home over San Diego Saturday. Live video and stats for GU's game against Pepperdine will be available on GoZags.com.
